You Need Both: Uniting DNA and Traditional Research with Angie Bush and D. Joshua Taylor

Monday, November 8, 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm ET

DNA results often yield more questions than answers, yet when combined with traditional genealogical research, can lead to untold discoveries and solutions to longstanding research problems.

This session outlines the perspective of an expert in DNA testing with an expert genealogist to discuss and examine the best ways to integrate these two important elements of family history.

Examples will include families from New York and elsewhere show resolutions to 100+ year brick walls, overcoming previously inaccurate research, and the pathways to use traditional research to build a DNA testing plan (and what to do with the results)!

This session will be recorded for NYG&B member access.

This event is free and open to NYG&B Members. Advanced registration required—click here to sign up.

Family History in Popular Culture

Wednesday, November 10, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm ET

Family history’s popularity is evident in today’s world of television. Popular series such as Finding Your Roots, Who Do You Think You Are?, and Genealogy Roadshow deliver genealogical experiences in each episode.

Yet, long before these (and other) series found their ways to our televisions, family history had already found its place in popular culture. From James Bond to Donald Duck, join NYG&B President D. Joshua Taylor as he explores the presence of family history in television, music, and film over the past 90 years.

A limited number of tickets will be available to view this talk at the NYG&B office, 36 West 44th Street, and it will also be livestreamed on Zoom. Please be advised that in-person attendees will be asked to show proof of vaccination per New York City law.

Purchase tickets online or call (212) 755-8532 x208 with any questions.
